Should I buy an ex-military Vehicle?

This is the first question you should ask yourself.  Military vehicles aren’t for everyone.   Below are a few things you should consider before going down this road.

Can you work on it yourself or do you have someone who can?
These vehicles can be maintenance intensive. If you have never worked on a car before or changed your own oil, you might want to reconsider this endeavor.   It isn’t always easy to find someone to work on these trucks if you don’t want to do it yourself.    You can’t exactly take a military HMMWV to Jiffy Lube to get it worked on.  If you aren’t up to the task, then you may want to make sure you have identified a reputable shop that can do the work and be prepared to pay for it before you move forward.    The good thing is that these vehicles aren’t that complex.  There is a plethora of Technical Manuals available for you to reference for every system on released vehicles.    As long as you are up to the challenge or have someone available who is, then you are ready for the next step.

Do you like standing out in a crowd?
Nothing draws attention like a military vehicle.  You won’t go anywhere without drawing attention to yourself.  If you are the kind of person who likes to live life without being noticed, a military vehicle may not be for you.

Do you like answering lots of questions?
Since you will draw attention, you will get asked lots of questions about your vehicle.  Whether  you are going out to eat, stopping for gas or just going to the grocery store, be prepared to answer a ton of questions from “Where did you get it?” to “What kind of mileage do you get?” and “How do I get one?“, you will get asked it all.

Do you like seeing the faces of the people you meet light up?
You will light up the faces of most people you meet, young and old alike.  From little kids to military veterans, you will get a lot of positive reactions and thumbs up

Has owning a military vehicle been a dream of yours?
I get it.  I really do.  I have wanted a HUMVEE since they first became available and if you told 13 year old me that I would own a real military HUMVEE one day, I would never have believed you.   I love our country and feel that nothing is more patriotic than driving a military vehicle in a parade for all to enjoy.
